Your home is a major investment and every precaution should be taken to protect it. Proper winterization and maintenance can guard you against winter losses.
- Remove leaves and debris from gutters and downspouts to prevent water backup.
- Insulate and reduce the temperature in the attic to combat ice damming (when snow melts and refreeze in the roof overhang)
- Trim back any trees or limbs that are too close to the house so when heavy snow or ice is on them, they don’t come down on your home. We recommend any work be done by a professional to avoid damage or injury.
- Insulate exterior plumbing and faucets or turn them off and drain to prevent freezing and water damage. Just because pipes are inside (if in an unheated garage, attic or crawl space), doesn’t mean they can’t freeze. Insulate them as well.
